Cardio Vs. Weight Training

When you finally decide that it’s time to make a change in your life and start working out on a daily basis, you have to make a choice between cardio and weight training. But for you to be able to make a choice between the two, you have to be informed about the risks and benefits associated with each type of training. Therefore, continue to read this article to find out more about each type of training, and which one is the best choice to go with.

Cardio training benefits and risks

There are many types of cardio workouts that you can choose from, the most popular being jogging, walking, and sprinting. Regular cardio training will help improve your lung capacity, it will help your heart pump more blood with fewer beats, and it will help improve your blood circulation. By practicing this type of training, you will increase your body’s endurance and efficiency. Other important benefits of cardio workouts are weight loss, improved mental health, increased stamina, disease reduction, improved muscle health, increased lifespan, and an improved immune system.

Of course, cardio training can hurt you, especially if you don’t take proper care of yourself while you workout. Stress fractures are the most common injuries that those who practice cardio workouts face. These fractures are caused by poor shoe selection, hard surfaces, and overuse. When you notice that swellings appear or you start feeling pain, go to a doctor and get an X-ray evaluation to make sure that everything is alright. Other risks that you expose yourself to while you practice cardio training are dehydration, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, heel spurs, and Achilles tendon and calf pain.

Weight training benefits and risks

Weight training is usually avoided by women due to the fact that they have the false impression that they will get bulky if they practice it. This isn’t true at all because you only build big muscles if you overdo it with the weights. Therefore, you control the way in which your body will be shaped when you practice weight training. The benefits of weight training are that it offers fast and noticeable results, it decreases the risk of osteoporosis, it helps maintain lean body mass, it develops coordination and balance, and it strengthens your muscles.

To make sure that you won’t fall victim to injury while doing weight training, you have to be supervised by a professional. This is the biggest disadvantage of weight training. Also, certain types of exercises, like lunges and incline bench presses, can cause injury if you’re not paying attention because of their difficulty. To make sure that you don’t hurt yourself when you do this type of training, it’s safe to provide lower back support. Otherwise, you will succumb to injury for sure.

Both cardio training and weight training have their pros and cons. There is no clear way to establish if one of them is better to practice than the other because they are both safe if you take the necessary precautions. Therefore, the best thing to do is to decide based on which of these workouts you find to be more entertaining and best suited for you.
